The SEC & CFTC have imposed a final ruling on Form PF. The new reporting requirement is to be filed by all registered Large Private Fund Advisers (over $5.0B), with an effective date of March 15, 2012 and a compliance date of June 15, 2012 for the initial filings by Large Private Fund Advisers. For funds with less than $5.0B, the compliance date is set at December 15, 2012 with the initial filing based on information as of December 31, 2012.

The new proposal could require your firm to possibly fill out as many as 4 sections, with additional information required for each fund you manage, totaling potentially over 1,500 inputs for each fund.

Sample list of items requested:

  • AUM and Net AUM for each Private Fund
  • Monthly performance for each fund
  • Value of the reporting fund's borrowings and the types of creditors
  • Investment strategy for each reporting fund
  • Trading and clearing mechanisms for each fund
  • Monthly Turnover Rate
  • Geographical breakdown
  • Liquidity of the fund's portfolio
  • Monthly Unencumbered Cash
  • Monthly total open positions
  • Detailed monthly VaR information for each fund
